Understanding Comedogenic Values
Comedogenic values are a simple way to estimate how likely an ingredient is to clog pores. The scale typically ranges from 0 to 5:
0 = Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)
1–2 = Low (generally well tolerated by most skin types)
3 = Balanced (may feel richer for some)
4–5 = High (more occlusive, often better suited for very dry skin)
These numbers are guidelines — not guarantees. Skin is wonderfully individual, and how a formula performs depends on concentration, how ingredients are blended, and how you use the product.
At Smitty’s Little Farm, we thoughtfully combine botanical ingredients to create formulas that are balanced, intentional, and supportive of real skin needs. Many of our products fall into low or balanced comedogenic ranges, making them suitable for a wide variety of skin types.
Tip:
Oily or congestion-prone skin may prefer lower-comedogenic formulas.
Normal to dry or dehydrated skin often benefits from richer, more nourishing blends.
Listening to your skin, patch testing, and keeping your routine simple go a long way toward happy, healthy-looking skin.
